Your clients can't accurately recall a week of use. Now they don't have to.

SmokingTracker captures consumption, mood, and cravings the moment they happen — not reconstructed in session days later. Three taps to log. One click to get session-ready data. And for clients who aren't ready to share anything yet — the tool works for them alone first.

The recall problem

Cannabis affects short-term memory. Your clients aren't lying — they just can't recall.

Regular cannabis use impairs episodic memory encoding. By the time a client sits across from you, a full week of sessions, moods, and triggers has dissolved into a vague "about the same." Ecological Momentary Assessment fixes this — not by asking them to remember, but by capturing it the moment it happens.

Everything your practice needs to track what actually happened between sessions

Built for outpatient substance use disorder programs — CBT, harm reduction, IOPs — where between-session data is the difference between guessing and knowing.

Evidence base

Built on peer-reviewed research

No marketing claims — only research and the design decisions that follow from it.

Recall bias
Retrospective self-report is unreliable
EMA captures behavior as it happens — dramatically improving accuracy versus reconstructed recall. 1
Proximal triggers
Craving and context predict use episodes
These associations only appear in real-time data — they vanish entirely in retrospective reports. 23
Measurement-based care
Timely feedback improves outcomes
MBC principles have strong evidence for improving outcomes when feedback is timely and systematic. 45
CUD-specific EMA
Validated for cannabis use disorder
Captures dynamic mood–craving–use relationships that structured clinical interviews consistently miss. 6

Frequently Asked Questions

What is SmokingTracker?
SmokingTracker is a clinical SaaS tool for outpatient substance use disorder treatment centers. Clients log cannabis consumption in real time using a three-tap mobile interface — no cognitive load required. Clinicians access a live dashboard showing usage trends, traffic-light status, trigger patterns, and printable PDF reports. SmokingTracker is built on Ecological Momentary Assessment (EMA), the gold-standard methodology for capturing behavior as it happens rather than from memory.
Is SmokingTracker HIPAA compliant?
SmokingTracker is built on a Privacy by Design architecture. A HIPAA Business Associate Agreement (BAA) is available to any US-based clinical account that requires one — reach out to request it. All plans include a GDPR Data Processing Agreement (DPA). The platform's data handling approach is designed to support 42 CFR Part 2 substance use confidentiality requirements.
How do clients receive access?
You generate an invitation link from your dashboard and share it however you prefer — email, SMS, or hand it over in session. The client clicks the link, sets a PIN, and can start logging immediately. No app download, no account creation, no IT setup required on their end.
What does the traffic light status actually measure?
It measures engagement — specifically how recently a client logged a session. Green: logged within the last 2 days. Yellow: last log was 2–7 days ago. Red: no log in 7+ days, or never logged. It reflects whether the client is actively using the app, not how much they're consuming. Disengagement is often the first observable sign of a client pulling back from treatment — the traffic light gives you an early signal before the next scheduled session.
How do I generate a PDF report for a client?
Open the client's profile on the dashboard and click Export PDF. The report includes usage trend charts, session annotations, trigger frequency rankings, and mood data — formatted for EHR attachment or clinical supervision. It prints cleanly from any browser with no additional software.
What reduction goals can clients set?
Three modes: Reduce (target a lower weekly count with a progress bar), Quit (abstinence goal with streak tracking and milestone badges), or Awareness (no target — just monitoring and pattern recognition). The client chooses during onboarding and can change at any time. The goal mode is visible on your dashboard so you know what each client is working toward.
